We process the following data so BiteBook can operate and support requests can be handled: • Account data – email, display name, and Auth0 ID for sign-in, authentication, and account management. • Profile data – display name, bio, date of birth, nationality, favourite cuisines, allergies, language preference, and profile image for personalization and community features. • Recipe and community content – recipes, comments, reactions, community profiles, messages, and content reports for the core product features. • Support data – tickets, messages, and uploaded screenshots to process support requests. • Notification data – APNs device token (iOS) and notification preferences for push delivery. • Technical operations data – aggregated API metrics such as route, method, status code, and duration without direct personal identification.
BiteBook only requests permissions that are needed for a concrete feature: • Camera – to take recipe photos directly inside the app. • Photo library read and write access – to select recipe images or save captured photos. • Push notifications – to inform you about relevant BiteBook events. If you deny a permission, BiteBook generally remains usable, but the related feature may be limited or unavailable.
• Contract performance (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) – operating the app and providing its features. • Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) – IT security, abuse prevention, spam filtering (profanity filter). • Legal obligations (Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR) – where applicable. • Consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR) – e.g. push notifications, camera access.
• Auth0 (Okta Inc.) – authentication and social login, including Google OAuth and Sign in with Apple. • Microsoft Azure (Europe West) – API hosting, MSSQL database, and Blob Storage for images. • SendGrid (Twilio Inc.) – transactional email delivery, including support or moderation-related communication. • Apple Push Notification Service (APNs) – delivery of push notifications to iOS devices. • Google Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) – delivery of push notifications for Android builds of BiteBook.
The BiteBook app does not use third-party tracking, analytics, or advertising SDKs. On-device storage is only used for required settings such as language, theme, or technically necessary session data. Sensitive values are stored encrypted in Secure Storage.
Personal data is stored until account deletion unless statutory retention obligations require longer storage. You can delete your account directly inside the app under Settings > Profile. This removes profile data, your own content, support tickets, and stored push tokens or clears them technically where required. If you no longer have access to the app, you can also request deletion via support@bitebook.ch.
Where data is processed outside Switzerland or the EEA (e.g. Auth0, SendGrid in the USA), appropriate safeguards are used (standard contractual clauses pursuant to Art. 46 GDPR).
You have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, and objection. Consent can be withdrawn at any time with effect for the future.
